Chapter 15 - Stand My Ground
BPOV
I woke up
and slowly opened my eyes. "Ugggg," I moaned. I had a splitting
headache. I laid there with no desire to get up. Then I realized where I was.
How did I get here in my room?
"Good
morning, Bella," Emmett said.
I jolted
myself into a sitting position; the sound of Emmett's voice scared the shit out
of me.
"Christ
Emmett! What the hell are you trying to give me a heart attack?" I asked
in a stern, quiet voice bringing my forehead to rest in my hands. God, my
head hurts.
"Are
you a little hungover Bella?" he asked as he walked toward me. "Here
are two aspirins and some water. Take them," he demanded.
"Emmett,
what..." was all I got out before he cut me off.
"No
Bella, I don't want excuses. Take the damn aspirin and drink the water."
The tone
of his voice startled me, so I did as he asked.
"Do
you know you had Rose and I frantic last night looking for you? I finally found
you passed out with an empty bottle in the bunk house."
I gasp as
last night came flooding back to me, and so did the pain.
"I...I..."
"Bella,
don't talk, just listen. I know you're hurting, but hitting the hard stuff
won't help. Yeah sure, it will make you numb and help you forget; but you love
him and it isn't that easy."
I let out
a loud sob. He sat on the bed next to me and rubbed my back.
"I
have something to tell you, and you may get mad at me." He took a deep
breath and I braced myself for what he might tell me. "I've been talking
to Jasper...,"
"YOU
WHAT?" I screamed and Emmett jumped up and off the bed. "I CAN'T
BELIEVE YOU," I screamed louder as I got up. My head was throbbing.
"Now
Bella, calm down," he said with his hands in the air. I swear I was going
to kill him.
"How
dare you?" My emotions were all over the place. I went from angry, to
hurt, to completely empty. I wrapped my arms around myself and fell to the
ground. "How could you?" I choked out in a sob.
"Listen
to me, please," he pleaded as he knelt next me. "He is in rough shape
also, he misses you. You are what he wants." I sobbed as he wrapped his
arms around me. "I know you love him and I'm pretty sure he feels the same
way."
"What?
What did you just say?" I pulled away from him so I could look him in the
eyes.
"You
both need each other. I believe he feels for you what you do for him."
"I
really ruined things, didn't I?" I sobbed.
"Look,
it will all work out. I promise. This is how things are going to play
out," he said as he pulled me up and we sat on the bed.
"Rose
will be here in a few minutes. You need to shower and eat something, and NO
more drinking. You need to get away from here, from Charlie and Edward. There
is a man that is hurting just as much as you are in Texas. He wants to be with
you and it's tearing him up."
I put my
hand up for him to stop talking. I slowly stood up and started to pace, trying
desperately to absorb what he was saying.
"You're
saying that Jasper still wants me even after what I did to him?" I
whispered, as I wiped away my tears.
"Yes,
and if you pull yourself together, eat a good meal, and stop drinking; I will
have you on a flight to Texas Monday morning."
I launched
myself at my brother and hugged him. "Really Emmett? He wants me?"
"Yes,
and you'll stay in Texas for a week, and then come back together."
I placed a
kiss on his cheek and then looked into his eyes. "Why would you do this
for me?" I asked. I could see the pain in his eyes.
"Because
you deserve to be happy and he makes you happy. You two didn't know each other
for long, but your feelings run deep for each other. Bella, I owe you this
much. When your marriage fell apart with Edward, I wasn't there for you; I was
too wrapped up in Rose. Mostly I'm sorry for not being a better big brother
after Mom left. I let Charlie rule you and I'll forever be sorry for
that." He took a deep breath. I could tell he was fighting back a tear.
"So, you need to pull yourself together. Charlie will be home late
tonight; you're gonna need to talk to him tomorrow."
"Crap,
I know."
"You
need to stand your ground with him. There ain't nothing he can do to stop
you."
I hugged
him tight. "You're the best big bother a girl could have."
There was
a knock at the door and in walked Rose. "Hey, how is everything in here?
Can I come in?"
"Yes,
come in," I said as I smiled at her.
"Did
you set up things for tomorrow?" Emmett asked Rose.
"Yes,
it's all set," she replied, they both were smiling at each other and then
looked at me.
"What?
Why are you looking at me like that?" I asked.
"Because
you, Alice, and I are going to the spa tomorrow to get you all dolled up for
Jasper." She was beaming as she told me the news.
"Alice?"
I asked.
"You
have no idea how hard it was to keep her away this week. She loves you,
Bella," Rose responded.
"I
know," I replied.
"Well,
I have things to do. I'll be in my office if either of you need me,"
Emmett announced as he walked toward my bedroom door.
"Emmett,"
I called out. He stopped and turned around. I ran to him and he opened his arms
for me. "Thank you. Thank you for everything."
"Just
be happy Bells, you deserve it," he said, as he placed a kiss on top of my
head.
Emmett and
Rose shared a warm loving smile as he walked out of the room.
"Alright
Bella, we need to get you showered, fed, and packed. Tomorrow after the spa
we'll get you some proper bed clothes, if you know what I mean," Rose said
with a huge smile on her face.
"Rose,
what's wrong with my bed clothes?"
"Really
Bella? You wear tanks and sweats to bed. We need to get you sexy things to
wear; although, I doubt they will be on for long."
I giggled
and my face turned red. "Thanks."
The rest
of Saturday came and went. Rose force fed me, helped me pack, and made sure I
didn't drink. I was in a good place, so I really didn't want to drink. I just
wanted Monday to come quickly.
"Anything
I can get you before I turn in?" Rose asked.
"Can
I ask you a question?"
"You
can ask me anything," she said as she sat on the sofa in my room.
"How
many times..." I started to pace; I was so wound up. "How many times
has Emmett called Jasper?"
"I
think maybe three. He's been on your side all along. He spoke to Jasper the
night you told him to leave. He told him that you needed space and that he
would keep in touch with him."
My mouth
dropped open. "Wow," was all I could manage to say as I sank onto the
sofa next to her. "Do you think it would be okay if I called him?"
"Are
you ready for that?"
"I
don't know. I'm afraid of what he may say to me, but I desperately need to hear
his voice."
"Then
call him but get some sleep. We have a huge day tomorrow," she said as she
got up to leave.
"Rose,
thank you." She turned and smiled at me before she walked out of my room.
I grabbed
my cell phone and fell onto my bed, staring at it. I took a deep breath and
scrolled through my contacts slowly, trying to get up some courage. What if
Emmett was wrong and he doesn't want me? I don't think I could bear that. I
traced my finger over his name and my stomach plummeted.
"Bella?"
he answered, his voice full of uncertainty.
"Jasper,"
I whispered. "I'm so sorry," I sobbed.
"Shhh
Bella. It's going to be okay. I miss you darlin'," he said in a soothing
voice.
"I
miss you too," I cried. "Can you ever forgive me?"
"None
of this was your fault, and it's over and done with. You'll be with me on
Monday night. We will have the whole week to talk and figure this out," he
assured me.
"I
can't wait to be with you," I said as I yawned.
"Get
some sleep, beautiful. You'll be in my arms soon."
"Night,
Jasper."
"Night,
darlin'."
I lay
there as the tears streamed down my face. I miss him so much. Two days and I'll
be with him. I closed my eyes and dreamed of Jasper.
Sunday
flew by. Rose, Alice and I had a great time together at the spa and shopping
for bedroom attire as Rose called it. We all got manicures, pedicures,
massages, and they even talked me into getting waxed. It hurt like hell, but
they promised me that the way Jasper would react to it would be way worth the
pain.
Over
dinner Alice filled us in with details about her relationship with Jake. Things
blossomed very nicely between them. She apologized at least thirty times for
her brother's behavior. I assured her each time it was not her fault. She also
high-fived Rose for kneeing him in the balls and punching him.
"I
want you to have the time of your life in Texas with that hot man. I always
say, Why ride a horse when you can ride a cowboy," she drawled.
We all
were in a fit of giggles. "I love you, Alice," I said as I hugged
her.
"I
had a great time you guys," Alice said as we approached her car."I
know you will be busy, but at least send me a text on how things are
going?" she winked at me and hopped in her car.
Rose and I
just laughed. "Well Bella, we need to get home. You still need to talk to
Charlie."
"Fuck!"
I cringed. I don't want to do this. I wish there was a way out of this.
"Bella,
nice mouth," Rose giggled.
We arrived
home and Emmett was outside to greet us.
"Where
is Charlie?" I asked.
"His
office and I'm coming with you. I won't let him intimidate you. I've already
spoken to him about a few things. I will fill you in with everything when you
get back. I don't want you to worry. Just know this, we have all the power
right now," Emmett said with an evil smirk.
"You
know you're right, I don't want to know. I want to get this over with and get
on a plane tomorrow and finally start to live again. Let's do this." I
turned to Rose, "Thanks for everything. You're the best sister a girl
could ask for!"
She
smiled, "I love you too, Bella."
Emmett and
I walked to Charlie's office. I stopped and looked at him. "What the hell
am I going to tell him?"
"Simply,
that you have had it with his manipulative ways. You pick Jasper not Edward,
and that you're going to Texas for a week and will be returning with
Jasper."
I just
stared at him. "He is going to flip."
"You
can add that when you come back, Jasper will be staying with you and not the
bunk house. Unless you want to move into the bunk house with Jasper?"
"What?
Really? He is going to have a heart attack on the spot."
"Trust
me lil' sis, we hold all the cards at the moment."
